Seattle Smooth is a 5yo Bay Filly bred in Kentucky by Dr. Oscar Benavides in collaboration with Darley Stud. Benavides bought Seattle Smooth's dam, the unraced Seattle Song mare Our Seattle Star and working closely with darley bred his mare to Quiet American a Stakes winning son of Fappiano who in turn was sired by the great Mr. Prospector. Being sired by Quiet American makes her-half sister to Kentucky Derby and Preakness Stakes winner Real Quiet, who lost the 1998 Triple Crown by what is known a lip.
As a three year old, Seattle Smooth won the Grade II Cotillion Handicap but in 2009 while a four year old, Seattle Smooth came into her own, after switching from artificial surfaces she took her last five starts (four of them graded Stakes).
In the Shuvee, Seattle Smooth broke from the rail but found herself near the lead in the final turns. She also turned the tables on Seventh Street in the Ogden Phipps Handicap.
